
Etihad Airways is the national carrier of the United Arab Emirates and in 10 years — the airline celebrated its tenth anniversary on 12th November 2013 — has established itself as one of the fastest-growing airlines in the world. Its ideal geographical hub between east and west has further helped spur its growth.
On 17th November, Etihad Airways became a launch customer for the 777X — a combination of 777-9Xs and 777-8Xs totaling 25 airplanes. Simultaneously the airline announced an order for 787-10s. Etihad Airways now becomes the world's largest airline customer for the 787 with a backlog of 71 Dreamliners as well as marking the 1000th order for this airplane. The airline's fleet currently comprises 17 777-300ERs and three 777 Freighters.
