Today’s technology revelations will change the formula and timeline for innovation within and beyond the aerospace industry. One thing I love about working at Boeing is knowing I work at a company that’s fundamentally changed the world. We ushered in the Space Age with the X-15 hypersonic aircraft, Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs. Our military aircraft, such as the AH-64 Apache, F/A-18 Super Hornet and F-15 Eagle, are vital tools in the defense of freedom. And thanks to our 7-series of commercial airplanes, we literally introduced the Jet Age.

The intent of Global Services, Boeing’s dedicated services business, is to lead change once again—this time in the Digital Age. As a leader in digital aviation and analytics, Global Services uses technology to make commercial and defense airframes and platforms smarter, more capable and less expensive to operate. For example, our team ushered in the use of data analytics to create predictive and proactive approaches for our customers as they utilized aircraft health monitoring—increasing aircraft efficiency while lowering operating costs.

And bigger and better things are in work, thanks to the talented members of the Boeing team working together to solve difficult challenges and bring astonishing innovations to life. In the not too distant future, advancement in areas like virtual reality, autonomy and artificial intelligence will change the way people travel, and the way our nation and its allies defend and protect. Things like pilotless airplanes and space tourism will become standard. Boeing will lead the transition in the way we design, manufacture and sustain for customers around the world.

Our success rests upon the shoulders of our current and future workforce. I truly believe that our most iconic achievements will happen at points of intersection—the interchange where innovative ideas cross to make technology work harder, faster and more cohesively than ever before.
