Take a bow: 787-10 performance testing is a show stopper

Boeing team puts the 787-10 Dreamliner to the test

Boeing's test team put on quite the performance recently, putting the 787-10 Dreamliner through a series of tests to check out its performance and handling. During takeoff performance testing in California, the team assessed how the airplane would behave during high speed and low speed takeoff. They needed perfectly calm wind conditions for this testing, and that's what they found at Edwards Air Force Base.

Perhaps one of the more thrilling tests for the pilots, ground effects testing, which measures the airplane’s aerodynamic behavior low to the ground. “We're flying very low, just above the runway” said 787-10 chief model pilot Tim Berg. “It's fun and exciting for the flight test team because it’s a very dynamic environment.”
