Greg Smith is chief financial officer and executive vice president of Enterprise Performance & Strategy at The Boeing Company, the world’s largest aerospace company and one of the largest U.S. exporters.
Smith, 53, is responsible for Boeing’s global strategy, finances, and program management including the company’s financial reporting and long-range business planning. He oversees Business Operations, Corporate Treasury and Controlling among other corporate functions, with the overall goal of accelerating innovation and driving a market-based approach across the company. He also leads enterprise program and general management, and the companywide Total Enterprise Quality effort to drive first-time quality and operational excellence through all aspects of the enterprise. Smith additionally has executive responsibility for the company’s global financing arm Boeing Capital Corporation.
His portfolio also includes the enterprise growth strategy including Corporate Development including M&A and Boeing HorizonX, an organization focused on new business ventures, world-changing products and markets.
Smith has extensive operational and financial experience in Boeing’s commercial, defense and space businesses over two decades of service. He was named chief financial officer in 2011 after serving as corporate controller and vice president of Finance. In that role, he served as the company's principal interface with the board of directors' audit committee and ensured financial disclosures and regulatory compliance were timely, transparent and efficient.
Prior to that, he was vice president of Corporate Financial Planning and Analysis, leading business plan development, financial forecasting, financial analysis, and capital commitment planning, as well as competitive analysis and benchmarking. Smith rejoined Boeing in 2008 after holding the position of vice president of Global Investor Relations at Raytheon. Before Raytheon, Smith held key leadership roles in supply chain, factory operations, finance, and program management at Boeing.
Smith also serves on the board of directors of Intel Corporation, the Economic Club of Chicago, Lurie Children’s Hospital and Northwestern Medicine Community Physicians Group. He is married with three children and lives in the Chicago area.
